Definition

Critical Speed describes a boundary in the speed-duration relationship for running and related locomotor exercise. It is a performance model and physiological intensity anchor, not simply a synonym for lactate threshold or race pace.

Practical use

Estimate it from multiple well-executed efforts across different durations and keep the protocol consistent. Use it as one intensity anchor, not as a universal replacement for all other thresholds.
