Definition

A single-leg control exercise that lowers the free foot toward the floor from an elevated step. This is a unilateral or split-stance lower-body exercise requiring control of the hip, knee and ankle while the body’s center of mass moves over a narrower base of support. It is commonly used to train single-leg strength, balance and force control.

Practical use

Keep the stance and step length compatible with balance and joint control; begin with body weight before adding external load when needed.
